The old mansion in south of Winchester looked very beautiful in summer. No one really knows what it is for sure, all they know it’s an orphanage. They don’t even know the name, but they know the owner is Quillish Wammy.
A black sedan parked directly in front of the main gate. Then an unlikely pair came to view; an old man with a young boy. The man is Quillish Wammy, and he brought along a new addition to the orphanage. The boy had messy dark brown hair, covering half of his face, running along until his shoulder. He wore a navy blue sweatshirt, and a pair of dark blue denims, completed with a pair of grey Chuck Taylors. His bright green eyes widen at the sight of the old mansion.
“Is this where I live now?” he asked childishly, looking up to meet Mr. Wammy’s brown eyes.
Chuckling lightly at the boy’s enthusiasm, he nodded. And they walked in together.
“Here is the common room. Oh, and Sam,” Sam turned his head lightly to look at Mr. Wammy.
“You mustn’t refer yourself by your true name. In here we use aliases, because you all are raised to be L’s successor. Now you must refer yourself by ‘Shore’. And at the end of the month, we will have a test to rank the successors. Please do well on those tests.” Mr. Wammy explained.
Sam, now Shore, nodded eagerly. Holding his thumb, he smiled widely. “Okay sir!”
“Good. Now you may go in and make some friends. There are some children in the common room. Do you want my help to get you settled in?”
“Nope. I’ll be fine sir.”
“Then I’ll leave you be.”
And with that Quillish Wammy walked away, still amused by Shore. That boy could make anyone’s frown turn upside down, he thought silently.
Shore knocked lightly on the door, only to feel ridiculous the next moment. But the door swung open, revealing a feminine blond boy, perhaps older than him, wearing nothing but black. He blinked once, unsure what to do, before sticking out his hand and said “Hi there.”
The blond boy smirked at him. His blue eyes shone, glinting mischievously. The person opened the door wider, motioning him to come in.
There were about three people in the room, with him and the person it makes five. One was a boy, clad in white, the complete opposite of the blond, who was now sitting beside a brunet wearing a striped shirt and shorts. The other was a girl with red hair put up into a ponytail, wearing a baggy light blue t-shirt and a pair of pants that reached her ankles.
“Look, we got a new kid here. Hey, what’s your name?” the goggleboy asked. His blond friend scowled before taking a bite from his chocolate bar. “I heard the old man said ‘Shore’. What a weird name.” The white boy shook his head in disapproval as he continued finishing his puzzle.
Shore still stood, unsure what to do. But hearing the blond boy making fun of his name makes him twitch.
The redhead then quipped “It’s not like ‘Mello’ a normal name either, my great fellow, Yellow Mello.” The girl smirked victoriously at the blond, Mello, before turning her attention to him.
“Hey there. I’m Arc, but you can call me A. Nice to meet you.”
Shore grinned, then strode over to where she is. Sticking his hand out for her to shake, he smiled confidently.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Sa-Shore! Yeah, Shore. You can send me a love letter later.” He blurted out, still smiling brightly at the redhead. Everyone in the room stared at him like he was mad. The white haired boy though, looked very amused.
The girl blinked her hazel eyes, before narrowing them and pointed an accusing finger at him.
“What makes you think I’m interested in you?” she said coldly.
Shore’s smile narrowed into a smirk. “’Cause all the girls can’t resist me. Rawr!” he added playfully as he stepped closer to her.
Mello and the brunet laughed loudly, clutching their chest and stomach as if they’re going to die. But the ivory haired boy walked up slowly to Arc, before crouching on the floor near her feet.
The girl casted a glance to the boy, before glaring at him again.
“Say it again, and I’ll kill you.”
“Or maybe Near will kill him, for stealing his girlfriend.” The blond taunted, smiling evilly at the two.
The redhead shrieked and slammed the nearest book she can get her hands on to Mello. This leaves the goggleboy and the silent white haired boy to look at him in curiosity.
“I haven’t introduced myself properly, have I? Well I’m Matt. And that’s Near.” the brunet said, while pointing at the small boy, Near. “And those two fighting are Mello, and as you just know, Arc.” He smiled, pointing at the two whose fight was beginning to turn ugly. “Don’t mind them, they like to do this often.” He added.
“Yes, because Mello always insist that we are infatuated with each other.” Near said in a deadpanned voice. Matt chuckled before sitting down next to Near, pulling out a Gameboy from his pocket.
Shore felt awkward for standing there all by himself. Mello and Arc are still fighting, now pulling each other’s hair while calling names; Matt is playing his Gameboy, with his arms around Near who was watching him in morbid curiosity.
At last Arc slammed Mello down the carpeted floor, declaring victory. Then she stepped over to Shore, leaving Mello who was sulking heavily, still oblivious to Matt and Near.
“Want me to give you a tour around the house?”
He nodded, and she reached out her hand to hold his. As they walked together through the halls, fingers intertwining, he couldn’t help but feel happy because things went fine. Maybe they could be friends after all.Labels: a, fandom: death note, matt, mello, near, shore
